Atheists get out?

Saw this on digg, just goes to show the intolerance of some people.

"The United States is based on having freedom of religion, speech, etc., which means you can believe in God anyway you want (Baptist, Catholic, Methodis, etc.), but you must believe.

I don't recall freedom of religion meaning no religion."
As another commenter on digg put it, does that mean I have to own a gun or leave the country? I mean, wow. Talk about intolerance. I thought religions were supposed to teach you to love thy neighbor and all that, regardless of whatever you perceive as their sins. Wasn't it

For the record, The First Ammendment. I especially like the explanations under Establishment of Religion that states:
"The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment prohibits the establishment of a national religion by Congress or the preference of one religion over another, or religion over non-religion."
There is nothing about the 1st that says you must believe in any god, just that you have the freedom to believe what you want. I believe that there is no god and religions are just mythology. That's my belief and I'm protected to have it. So Fuck off Alice Shannon of Sodotna.

I like the mention of this on about.com. It even links to the Alaskan newspaper that printed it and some of its readers' responses.

wow, my first comment and this is what I get.

I'm a weakling? I choose to put my faith in science, nature, the universe at large. I believe in my family's unconditional love. I don't need to believe in stories I was told as a child. You feel that you need to, that's fine, I have no quarrel with you over that. Believe what you will. I choose not to, and in the United States of America, it is my right to.

That piece of paper sets out the foundation for this country. It says that all faiths are welcome here whether that faith is in God, Allah, Buddha, L. Ron Hubbard, the flying spaghetti monster, or Albert Einstein.

I agree that religion is above and beyond a constitution because a government does not have the right to tell us what to believe or not believe. To that point, I don't know why your so mad at me. Centuries ago, you might have been arrested for being Christian.

Now, my friend, here is where you go off the deep end. Are you from the USA? You say "damn constitutions" and "stupid US Government". As an American I say the US Constitution is sacred and more than just a "piece of paper" so show some FUCKING RESPECT!!

Now the point of my original post was to point out the intolerance of those who are taught tolerance and love. You're animosity towards me just proves my point.

I have no problem with you or your beliefs, so let's just agree to disagree.
