Have a job you hate? I know the feeling. Thankfully, that feeling is long behind me. I'm approaching 3 years at my current job and aside from a few little nuisances, it's really been a great experience. In the past few months I've attended a company sponsored keg party, happy hour, a booze cruise around Manhattan and went to the movies to see Ironman. They like to come up with fun things to do. Last year we went to Six Flags, played lasertag, had a few happy hours. Bring your kid to work day is always exciting for the parents. Halloween is cool too. Some people come up with some really original costumes.
The work itself is challenging. I'm on the team that does all of the front-end production. That's a change for me, having been doing both back-end and front-end for so long. But we don't do just simple web pages, we have full-fledged web apps. I personally had to write and convert about 4000 lines of code for one app. Object-oriented javascript is very powerful if you know how to use it. We've also done a lot of Flash/AS2.0 and are now doing Flex apps. I still deal with some back-end code, but only as it concerns front-end output using JSP, JSTL and Velocity.
So don't get down on yourself if you hate your job. A better job awaits you somewhere.
